Sep 21, 2024 9:28 PM

Square Enix has today announced the launch of its new Final Fantasy-themed radio station on America Online's Radio@ Network. The Final Fantasy radio station--which is available to listeners on Radio@AOL, Radio@AOL for Broadband, and Radio@Netscape under the Soundtracks & More category--features around 200 music tracks taken from Final Fantasy games VII through XI.

"We are extremely excited to have a dedicated radio station for music from our Final Fantasy games on the AOL Radio@ Network," said Jun Iwasaki, president and CEO of Square Enix U.S.A. "The music is not just for gamers, but for all music lovers around the world. With their enormous reach and superior sound quality, the AOL Radio@ Network is a great way to showcase our music library."

"As part of our ongoing mission to provide the best games programming for the mass market, we are excited to partner with Square Enix and provide our members with a Radio@ Network station dedicated exclusively to the Final Fantasy franchise," added Matthew Bromberg, VP and general manager of AOL Games. "Since Final Fantasy is one of the hottest series of video games available today, music from the franchise is a perfect fit for our first video games station on the number one online radio network."

The Final Fantasy soundtracks are composed by Nobou Uematsu, who was named as one of the innovators in Time magazine's "Time 100: The Next Wave--Music" feature. Square Enix hopes that its Final Fantasy radio station will raise awareness and appreciation not only of its own musical creations, but also of video game music throughout the industry.
