The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series sales have surpassed 2 million copies worldwide, Square Enix has announced.
The remasted series initially launched on Steam, and mobile platforms, but also become available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 last month. As now announced by the developer and publisher Square Enix, the series, which consists of remastered pixel versions of Final Fantasy I through Final Fantasy VI, global sales have topped 2 million across all platforms.
Here's what we wrote about the first three Final Fantasy entries in the Pixel Remaster series some years ago.
"The main selling point of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series is the visual overhaul, one that attempts to stay as faithful as possible to the originals", Francesco de Meo wrote in his review in 2021. "The first three games do manage to achieve this with varying degrees of success. The games generally look like Final Fantasy IV and V, although spell effects are considerably better than what we have seen in the SNES games, and so are some of the battle backgrounds. The overworlds, towns, and dungeons do have that distinct 16-bit feel, but with some nice additions and extra animations, like the dust cloud in the Cavern of the Earth. On the other hand, character sprites look like higher-quality versions of the originals, but they pale in comparison to those seen in the PSP and mobile remakes."
In FINAL FANTASY pixel remaster series, players can expect some unique features for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch version, including the option to switch between the rearranged and original-based soundtrack for the game, as well as a choice of in-game fonts – players can now opt to play using the game’s default font or a pixel-based font. Additionally, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch players can also expect additional boost features to expand gameplay options, including switching off random encounters and adjusting experience gained multipliers between 0 and 4.
The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series are now available for PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices.
