Crytek is looking for a few good gamers. They want more than a few, actually. The UK developer wants 5,000 beta-testers to help flush the bugs out of the multiplayer mode of Far Cry, its upcoming PC FPS. Those interested can register for the beta on the official Far Cry Web site, and will be selected according to their geographic location.
Published by Ubisoft, Far Cry is a first-person PC shooter which emphasizes both stealth and action. It follows a mysterious ex-soldier who wakes up on a remote tropical island bristling with heavily armed mercenaries. The game employs a new 3-D engine that uses Crytek's proprietary polybump process to fully render outdoor areas over a mile in diameter. GameSpot's hands-on preview has more about the game.
