Fallout Shelter Ads Come to Tinder
Fallout Shelter Ads Come to Tinder-October 2024
Oct 25, 2024 12:19 PM

Bethesda has launched an unusual marketing campaign for its popular mobile game, Fallout Shelter, as the developer is promoting the title from within the dating app, Tinder. No, really.

People have started to discover a profile page for Vault Boy. Tinder of course is a hotbed for fake profiles, but this one actually comes from Bethesda. The company is promoting it on Twitter with the tag line "Date a Dweller."

Vault Boy's Tinder profile states that he's 25 years old and enjoys "Nuka Cola, putting out fires, taking coffee breaks, and exploring the blasted wasteland." A quote is also featured on his page that reads, "If love was radiation, I'd need a box of RadAways." How adorable.

A Kotaku reader who found the Fallout Tinder profile says the page directs you to a download link for Fallout Shelter. It would be funny for the joke to continue to an actual conversation, but that might get creepy/weird pretty quickly.

Bethesda also seems to be promoting a Vault Girl Tinder page, with the suggestion of same-sex relationships, though no other details are available. Take a look at the image below.

Fallout Shelter was announced during Bethesda's first-ever E3 briefing in June, and was released for iOS devices just minutes later (it came to Android last week). The free game lets you build your own vault and act as its "overseer." Basically, you control all the people inside the vault and must keep them productive and happy.

The game was not developed to be a big-time money maker, according to Bethesda's Todd Howard, but that's exactly what it's become. The game, the first-ever mobile title based on Fallout, made $5.1 million in its first two weeks from the sale of virtual lunchboxes, according to a research firm.

"It just shows that fans are smart; and if you give them something they think is fun, they probably reward the people who made it," Howard said back in June about the mobile game's early success.

Fallout 4, the next proper entry in the Fallout series, is due out in November for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
