F9 Cruises Past $160 Million For International Opening Weekend-November 2024
Nov 15, 2024 8:56 PM

F9 opened at international theaters over the weekend, and it blasted off with $162.4 million globally. This includes a whopping $135.6 million from China alone. Before seeing the movie, make sure to check out GameSpot's Fast & Furious 9 review.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ticket sales for F9 in China were "as strong as pre-pandemic times." In China, F9 is the first movie from Hollywood to make more than $100 million over its opening weekend since Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

"It shows us that audiences are willing to come back when the right movie is available," Universal distribution boss Veronika Kwan Vandenberg said.

With these latest numbers factored in, the entire Fast & Furious series has now surpassed $6 billion worldwide from box office receipts.

F9's release was intentionally staggered across worldwide markets. The action movie lands in the United States on June 25 where it's expected to have a massive start as vaccine availability continues to increase.

In the US, the new Saw spin-off Spiral made $4.6 million to boost its 10-day haul to $15.8 million, while worldwide, it's made $22.5 million. In total, Spiral helped push the Saw franchise overall beyond $1 billion.

In other news, we recently learned that the idea for F9's magnet cars came from director Justin Lin's child.
