Oct 23, 2024 2:32 PM

Denial Esports, the professional gaming team that won the 2015 Call of Duty Championship, is under new management. Robert Bowling, formerly the creative strategist at Infinity Ward (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare), has acquired the international organization, becoming its new co-owner in the process.

This will be the largest eSports year to date and I'm proud to announce my acquisition as co-owner of @DenialEsports pic.twitter.com/M2WW4O1evb

"My focus is on growing the organization into a household name as esports become THE most watched sport online and continues to climb as a billion dollar industry," Bowling said on his LinkedIn page. "My responsibility is to increase the capability of our teams to compete in more tournaments, retain high value players, and attract like-minded sponsors while building the Denial brand to become synonymous with esports."

In its own tweet, Denial Esports said welcoming Bowling as its new co-owner helps the team in its pursuit to become the "fastest growing organization in the sport."

Financial terms of the arrangement are not available. Denial Esports, which refers to themselves as the "Wolf Pack," participates in tournaments for Halo, League of Legends, and Smite, in addition to Call of Duty.

Denial won the 2015 Call of Duty Championship last summer, claiming a trophy and $400,000.

After the huge success of Modern Warfare and its sequel, Bowling--considered to be the face of Call of Duty--left Infinity Ward in 2012. He would go on to create his own studio, Robotoki, running the Human Element studio until its closure in March 2015. In addition to his role as co-owner of Denial, Bowling is the vice president and creative director at charity-focused online game store Humble Bundle.

In other esports news, another high-profile professional Call of Duty team, OpTic Gaming, is coming out with a book with big-name publisher Harper Collins.
