Ewan McGregor Says Obi-Wan Has A New Look In Star Wars Series, Teases A Special Scene-November 2024
Nov 1, 2024 11:26 AM

Actor Ewan McGregor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel's late night show this week to talk about a lot of things, including Star Wars and his upcoming Obi-Wan series. In the interview, which McGregor conducted from the set of the show, the actor teased he filmed a very special scene for the Obi-Wan show on the Star Wars holiday, May 4th. He also said Obi-Wan might have a new costume for the show, which takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith.

"I got to play a very special scene on May the 4th. With someone very special in my life. And that's all I can tell you about it," he said.

McGregor went on to say that McGregor and this person have never been seen together on screen before, which is intriguing to think about. Pressing for more information, Kimmel asked if this person or character was related to Obi-Wan. McGregor replied, "No, not necessarily."

Speaking generally about the Obi-Wan show, McGregor brought up that Obi-Wan's costume might be different than the last time we saw him. That would be no big surprise, though, given some time has transpired since the last time we saw him.

"I have to say, I'm having a really good time. The costume is probably slightly different than you might expect," he said. "But to go back into the role, shall we say, is great. It's all still there, it feels good, there's some great scripts and great people to work with. I'm having a good time."

McGregor also showered praise on the new tech being used to create the show called StageCraft. As announced previously, Lucasfilm is working with Fortnite studio Epic Games and Star Wars effects company Industrial Light and Magic on this tech, which uses Epic's Unreal Engine to project scenes onto LED screens surrounding the physical set.

McGregor said in the interview that this tech is "extraordinary" and that it allows the show to feel "much more realistic" than the movies, which relied heavily on blue/green screens.

The Obi-Wan series is one of 10 new Star Wars shows coming to Disney+. It was recently announced that Maya Erskine (Plus One, Pen15) had joined the cast. Additionally, Hayden Christensen is back as Anakin Skywalker.
