ESRB Declares Super Mario Odyssey Isn’t Suitable for Children Under 10
ESRB Declares Super Mario Odyssey Isn’t Suitable for Children Under 10-October 2024
Oct 20, 2024 1:43 AM

The games of Super Mario Bros. have been classified by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) with the letter E, for all audiences, after all the style of play, its mechanics, and its elements show fantastic worlds, full of color and free of content that could hurt some type of susceptibility. Now with the next arrival of Super Mario Odyssey, the ESRB has surprised to grant a new classification to the game.

The ESRB gave Super Mario Odyssey the E10+ rating, that is for all audiences over 10 years, something that has surprised us because it is the first game in the series to receive that category.

Obviously, this was not expected and although the specific reason was not revealed, the agency mentioned that it was within the parameters of mild violence in type of cartoon and fantasy, as well as having few suggestive themes and dialogues on a level that would not fit into the previous classification, E.

Beyond what can be considered regarding the aspects that the ESRB takes into account to classify Super Mario Odyssey, the majority of the opinions points to a specific scenario: New Donk City.

Apparently the fantastic realms present in the game are not the reason why it received the E10+ rating, as they are not so far away from what the series has managed for decades, but it should be noted that this time Super Mario Odyssey will put us in New Donk City, and although it is not known what Mario can do there, it seems that the ESRB is taking precautions for the virtual incursion of the virtual plumber in a "real world".

It should be mentioned that a few days ago the box art of Super Mario Odyssey was modified, removing the image of Mario wearing a Mexican outfit and although Nintendo has not revealed the reason for this change, it seems that it is a preventive act not to provoke controversy in any sense.

Super Mario Odyssey will be available on October 27 on Nintendo Switch.
