Though I haven't played every game in the series, my appreciation of Resident Evil involved several weeks of pocket money. One of the main reasons I bought a PlayStation was to play the original Resident Evil. Later, the deciding factor for dropping cash on a GameCube was to play Resident Evil 4.
These were some of the most unique gaming experiences ever released. Perhaps that's why the catastrophic new direction of the series is so hard to understand. How did games as progressive and genre-evolving as Resident Evil, turn into a by-the-numbers third-person shooter?
