Emulation mash-up 29/2/08-January 2024
Jan 19, 2025 8:05 AM

Welcome to the first edition of Emulation Mash-Up, where we take a look at all the new games coming out this week on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Arcade, and the Wii's Virtual Console.

It's a quiet week for PlayStation owners, with barely a trickle of content coming out. Wipeout Pulse fans should be pleased with the release of the Auricom Pack, which features two new tracks, both with Zone variants. Aside from the DLC, a new Patapon trailer is also now available on the PC PlayStation Store.

Only one game is hitting Xbox Live Arcade this week and it's a revision of the 2006 Japanese arcade title--Triggerheart Exelica. Like a lot of Japanese arcade games, Triggerheart doesn't have much in the way of a story. It pits you against hoards of enemies over five levels and gives you two options on taking them down. The easiest way is to just shoot them, alternatively you can trap and toss enemies by controlling a humanoid weapons system called Triggerheart. Triggerheart Exelica is available for download now on Xbox Live Arcade for approximately 800 Microsoft points.

Wii owners come out on top this week with two old-school releases today--Psychosis and Super Turrican. Psychosis is a side-scrolling shooter for the TurboGrafx-16 and was released in 1990. In the game, your mind has been taken over by an evil power called The Devil Ugar, who plans to take over your mind. Not on your watch! With the power of your mind, you take control of a ship that can travel through your subconscious and consciousness to take back your sanity. Sounds trippy! Psychosis is ready to download on the Virtual Console now.

Super Turrican is a shootem-up developed by Factor Five for the Super Nintendo. The level design should feel familiar to Metroid fans, as it was one of the main influences for the designers when creating its labyrinths. Super Turrican features a grappling arm, not unlike that featured in Bionic Commando, which you can use to swing through the levels. Super Turrican is up on Virtual Console stores now.
