This morning, Bethesda Softworks announced the development of Morrowinds, the company's third RPG set in the Elder Scrolls universe. According to Bethesda, Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowinds will be completely open-ended, allowing you to play any variety of characters and embark on a vast number of different quests. Powering this ambitious endeavor will be a brand-new 3D engine capable of displaying large textures, a continuous number of polygons, real-time shadows, and skeletal animation.
"We know it's been a long time coming," said Morrowinds project leader Todd Howard. "It's the most ambitious game we've ever done and not something we go into lightly. The scope of this game is staggering, both in terms of the game world and the technology behind it. Having been down this road before, we know how long it takes to get it right."
Morrowinds has been in development for nearly one year already, and it is expected to release in 2001. Be sure to take a look at these three new screenshots, which show off some of the game's characters.
