Juicy rumors have been percolating for a while now that Darks Souls developer From Software and Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin were collaborating on a project, but many didn’t believe it, as it seemed like too perfect a match. Well, the game, called Elden Ring, is the real deal. You can check out a stirring teaser trailer for the game, below.
There's still a whole lot we don't know about Elden Ring, although the game would seem to have a strong Norse flavor. There's also definitely some touches of Lord of the Rings in the trailer. Elden Ring is said to be From Software’s “largest game to date," and given George R.R. Martin's involvement, it will probably their bloodiest to date, as well! Here's the game's not-terribly-specific official description:
Elden Ring, developed by FromSoftware and Bandai Namco is a fantasy action-RPG adventure set within a world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki (creator of the Dark Souls video game series) and George R.R. Martin (author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire) Danger and discovery lurk around every corner in FromSoftware’s largest game to-date.
Hidetaka Miyazaki is known for directing critically-acclaimed games in beloved franchises including Armored Core, Dark Souls, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. George R.R. Martin is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of many novels, including the acclaimed series A Song of Ice and Fire. As a writer-producer, he has worked on The Twilight Zone, Beauty and the Beast, and various feature films and pilots that were never made.
What do you think? Excited for this team up? Miyazaki hasn't failed us yet when it comes to gameplay, but sometimes the writing of From Software games is just a touch lackluster. So this is a match made in heaven, I'd say.
Elden Ring is coming to PC, Xbox One, and PS4. A release date has yet to be set.
