The company is preparing to issue on Friday (June 26) its annual report for the fiscal year that ended March 31, 1998. And, perhaps as a preface to that report, is serving notice that it knows it is the subject of speculation that has it looking to acquire other software developers. The loudest of those rumors is perhaps the one that has Eidos looking to take Virgin Interactive off Viacom's hands.
"The Board of Eidos would like to make it clear that, along with other companies in the computer games industry, it reviews many acquisition opportunities," read a statement issued by Eidos. "It believes that the computer games industry is in a period of consolidation and Eidos is determined to be one of the leading companies. Accordingly a number of possible acquisitions are being considered by Eidos and if any of these are successful, Eidos' shareholders will be informed."
In other Eidos-related news, the company today announced the release of the PC version of popular console 3D action/combat game Deathtrap Dungeon.
