Eidos acquired the rights to use Paramount Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox's Braveheart property for its upcoming strategic combat title.
Braveheart, the game, is set in Scotland's Dark Ages and will emulate the brutal battles and political tensions that built up the atmosphere in the Braveheart movie starring Mel Gibson. In the game, all of the main movie characters will be modeled to look familiar, and scenes from the film will also be included.
Produced in Scotland's Red Lemon Studios, the title will use satellite terrain mapping and fractal technology to re-create every square mile of Scotland and Northern England. Gamers will choose to play as one of 16 tribes, each with its own climate, tactics, and economics.
"The Braveheart license is a perfect match for this richly detailed, story-driven, strategy-combat game," commented Mike McGarvey, COO of Eidos Interactive. "The game quality coupled with the passionate following behind the film and Mel Gibson's well known Braveheart imagery should propel the title to classic status."
