EA confirmed today the release of F1 Championship Season 2000 for the PlayStation 2. According EA, the company has taken advantage of the PS2's technical prowess to create breathtaking new graphical detail and gameplay options. Examples include a complete pit stop with a full 22-man pit crew, each one individually motion captured. Additionally, Formula One race director Keith McKenzie, the winner of the 1999 FIA award for best Formula One broadcast coverage, has directed camera positioning on the tracks. Further details include visible seats in the grandstands, visor tear-off, and even stripping paint-work.
EA representative Charlie Scibetta told GameSpot News that while F1 Championship Season 2000 won't be complete for the North American launch of the PlayStation 2, it will definitely be finished before the end of the year.
"EA Sports have captured the intense pressure and organization involved in the pinnacle of [this] motor sport," said Flavio Briatore, Benetton Formula One team manager.
"F1 Championship Season 2000 signals the first in a series of next generation Formula One titles from EA Sports. We have assembled development talent of the highest caliber to produce a supreme racing experience on this exciting new platform," said Tom Stone, head of EA's European studio.
