EA Gothenburg focusing on Frostbite 2-November 2024
Nov 17, 2024 4:57 PM

EA's Frostbite 2 game engine may have been built for Battlefield 3, but it's turning up in all sorts of games. As part of the 2012 Game Developers Conference today, EA announced plans to found a new studio in Gothenburg, Sweden, with an eye toward creating even more titles using the powerful game development toolkit.

The Battlefield 3 game engine is turning up in all sorts of games. The publisher offered scant few details on what the new Swedish studio would look like, aside from stating that developers would be working on "a new generation of games" using Frostbite 2. EA will be holding a meet-and-greet in San Francisco on Wednesday for prospective employees, with additional details available through the company's jobs site.

Job applicants will be informed of the franchise and genre of EA Gothenburg's project after signing a non-disclosure agreement.

Beyond Battlefield 3, the Frostbite 2 engine has been seen in Need for Speed: The Run. EA is also using it to build Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Command & Conquer: Generals 2. Other rumored applications include Army of Four and Dragon Age III.

EA Gothenburg is the publisher's second studio in Sweden, behind the Stockholm-based EA DICE.
