According to recent reports in European trade publications, Electronic Arts has secured the publishing rights to games based on the Harry Potter franchise. The UK-based firm Bullfrog will apparently develop a series of Harry Potter games, and the first installment will likely be based on the first novel in the series, the Sorcerer's Stone. When contacted for comment recently by GameSpot, Jeff Brown, senior director of corporate communications for Electronic Arts, refused to elaborate on the speculation.
J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series has been published in 115 countries and in 28 languages, and more than 18.4 million Harry Potter books are in circulation in the United States. The books have spent several weeks atop national best-seller lists such as the New York Times and USA Today. Warner Bros. Pictures is currently developing a feature film based on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
