E3 2001: Namco confirms Tekken 4, Soul Calibur sequel-April 2024
Apr 16, 2025 11:01 PM

Namco representatives recently confirmed that follow-ups to both the Tekken series and Soul Calibur are in development for the arcades. At a meeting with Namco at E3 today, we were shown a short teaser video, consisting of gameplay footage from Tekken 1 through 3, along with Soul Edge/Blade and Soul Calibur. Each segment of the video ended with a title screen, presumably the titles of the upcoming games: The Tekken sequence ended with a "Tekken 4" logo, while the Soul Calibur segment ended with the cryptic "Soul Calibur: The Next Chapter." Quick character shots preceded each title screen, hinting at the character lineups of the future installments. In the Tekken segment, we caught a glimpse of Heihachi, Hworang, and Jin. The Soul Calibur characters were oddly veiled, interestingly enough, but two of the figures somewhat resembled Taki and Xianghua.

We also learned that Tekken 4 has gone into testing in an undisclosed location in Japan today, so expect an update from us real soon. No console ports for either Tekken 4 or Soul Calibur II have been announced at this time.
