Westwood Studios has announced that Dune 2000 will be making its way to the PlayStation later this year. The real-time 3D strategy follows the path set by Westwood's past PlayStation hits, which include Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer Red Alert, and Red Alert Retaliation.
The game allows players to chose from three armies, the noble Atreides, the evil Harkonnen, or the insidious Ordos. Then using one of those armies, players must progress through 3D battlefields. Interspersed between the action are video mission briefings, all inspired by the David Lynch movie.
"Dune 2000 will energize the strategy genre on the PlayStation with 3D terrain and intense action," said Steve Wetherill, executive producer of Dune 2000. "Not only is it a great strategy game, but it takes place on the exotic setting of Dune. Just wait until you see a sandworm in 3D."
Dune 2000 for the PlayStation is due out this winter. GameSpot scored the PC version a 5.5.
