Batman: Arkham Knight turned out to be a mess on PC when it was launched earlier this year, and for players who paid good bucks to enjoy the caped crusader’s latest escapade in glorious resolution and smooth frame-rate, the City of Gotham was quite certainly in a complete mess. Now with the developer still coming up short after re-launching the game just last month, it seems like things are only getting worse, as it has just been announced that the game will not support dual-GPU SLI or Crossfire configurations on PC.
According to a reply from Warner Bros. representative, known by username wb.elder.pliny, to a Steam Community query on Batman: Arkham Knight’s Steam forums (via Rock Paper Shotgun), the potential gains from solving the issues with multi-GPU support were predominated by the risks involved in the process and the possibility of such changes affecting other parts of the game. The representative said Warner Bros. is “disappointed” that support for multi-GPU usage wasn’t practical, and apologized to “those who have been waiting for this feature”.
"We’ve been working with our development and graphics driver partners over the last few months to investigate utilizing multi-GPU support within Batman: Arkham Knight. The result was that even the best case estimates for performance improvements turned out to be relatively small given the high risk of creating new issues for all players. As a result we’ve had to make the difficult decision to stop work on further multi-GPU support."
This means that unless they change their mind and give it another try, players won't be able to play Batman: Arkham Knight on their SLI or Crossfire setups ever. However, the good news is that if the game is still a mess for you and you don't want to be disappointed anymore, you can simply return the game and ask for a fund before the year ends. Unlike the console versions, PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight has faced technical challenges since its release. The game was removed from Steam due to its intolerable technical flaws, and was reinstated just last month with a free game offer to make up for all the disappointment, but it looks there is still a lot that can be improved.
