We just got our hands on an early build of Rayman 2 for the Dreamcast and are impressed with just how pretty the game looks. Not surprisingly, the Dreamcast version of the top-notch platformer looks a lot more like the 3D-accelerated version of its PC counterpart than it does like the version that graced expansion pak-enabled N64s earlier this year. Extremely crisp and detailed graphics grace the immense levels, making Rayman 2 one of the best-looking platform games I've seen on a console.
Obviously, the basic gameplay is similar to the PC and N64 versions. Rayman must gather four separate masks so he can wake a sleeping god who will help him stick it to a band of evil pirates who have been busy making slaves out of Rayman's friends. Still, there are some obvious differences. The Dreamcast controller lends itself well to the platformer's control scheme. You'll find that Rayman's simple control layout is easy to pick up with the Dreamcast's few buttons.
The graphics are simply amazing. If you liked the N64 version, you're gonna drop your jaw when you see the Dreamcast version. Lush environments and detailed effects flex the graphical muscle of Sega's Dreamcast. The sound is true to the N64 version - great music and nice sound effects that are easy on the ears.
Our early build crashed numerous times while playing through the first level, so we were unable to bring you information or screenshots for anything past the first few minutes of the game. But from what we've played, Rayman 2 looks like it could be everything the PC and N64 versions were and more.
