Dota 2 Hits 1 million Concurrent Players, Still Far Smaller Than League of Legends-October 2024
Oct 18, 2024 4:51 AM

Dota 2 is the first game on Steam to hit 1 million concurrent users, according to Steam's own game and player statistics page.

To be exact, it hit a peak of 1,075,464 concurrent players, probably thanks to the game's New Bloom festival event. By comparison, the second most popular game on Steam that day, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, hit a peak of 419,393 concurrent players. Minecraft, we recently learned, regularly breaks the 1 million concurrent players mark on PC, not counting its mobile players, offline players, or players with outdated versions of the game.

That's certainly an impressive number, but it's absolutely dwarfed by Riot's competing, far more popular MOBA League of Legends, which has hit a peak of over 7.5 million concurrent players.

It's interesting to note that Dota 2 broke the record of most popular game on Steam while the total numbers of players on Steam, across all games, didn't exceed its own record, which currently stands at 8.5 million.
