Doom RPG tops Mobies-October 2024
Oct 24, 2024 10:19 AM

Today at the CTIA Wireless 2006 expo in Las Vegas, a panel of judges from CNET Games and Entertainment--of which GameSpot is a part--handed out the Third Annual Mobile Entertainment Awards. Better known as the "Mobies," the awards honor "excellence in mobile entertainment innovation, design, and technical achievement," and they were released last year.

The big winner of the 2005 Mobies bore a name familiar to almost all gamers. It was Doom RPG, based on id Software's popular first-person shooter series. A turn-based role-playing game that uses the same first-person perspective and visual style as Doom, Doom RPG was developed by Texas-based Fountainhead Entertainment and published by Jamdat, which has since been bought by Electronic Arts. Doom RPG also won the Best Adventure/Role-Playing Game prize.

Other honorees at this year's Mobies included Sony Pictures Digital's Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile, a cell phone spin-off of the popular PlayStation 2 series. Digital Chocolate, the mobile game company started by Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, took home two prizes: Best Board/Card Game for WordKing Poker and Best Puzzle Game for Tower Bloxx. Glu Mobile and Gameloft also won awards.

Four companies were also given special achievement awards at the Mobies: Amp'd Mobile, MobiTV, Sprint Nextel, and Verizon Wireless. A complete list of winners is below.
