Dominik 'Black^' Reitmeier to leave China-September 2024

This article was originally published on GameSpot's sister site onGamers.com, which was dedicated to esports coverage.

Black^ together with LGD.intThe acclaimed carry player from Germany joined LGD.Int following last year's edition of The International. The multi-national endeavor conducted by the Chinese Dota team LGD was heralded as one of the best teams at the beginning of 2013, but lost steam throughout the year, and ended up outside of the top 8 at TI3.

LGD.int's deteriorating performance following the largest Dota tournament in history prompted players, as well as the organisation to explore new opportunities. This was where Dominik 'Black^' Reitmeier entered the picture, being heralded as one of the best carries the West had to offer in the first half of 2013, he joined LGD.int's second iteration together with Nicholas 'xFreedom' Kelvin Ileto Lim.

Unfortunately, after several bouts of miscommunication, this roster went separate ways as well, leaving Reitmeier without a team for close to two months after his final appearance in professional Dota 2 at the WPC-ACE League playoffs. After said two months, Black^ today released a statement on his Twitter account explaining why he hasn't been seen with any other Chinese team during this period of time.

Anyway I talked to Daryl 'Iceiceice' Koh, Xu 'Burning' Zhilei and Chai Yee 'Mushi' Fung, and they said, even if I was able to master Chinese, it would still be almost impossible for me to find a team in China, because they have a close inner circle of players from whom they build the top teams.

Reitmeier also admits that the possibility of finding a team in the West right now may be even more of a challenge, as sources have told onGamers that TI4 will take place in mid-July, which means that the invitations for the event will be sent out very soon. This subsequently means that teams will be reluctant of changing their line-ups as it nullifies said invite.

I won't stop fighting to find a new team, but I have already made peace with the possibility that I might not be able to compete at this TI. If that happens, I will invest into the future and redouble my efforts to earn a spot at TI5. I've had a difficult time finding a stable team, but I won't give up. I love this game, I love the competition, and I intend to continue pouring myself into it.
