The long-running sci-fi show Doctor Who is set to return for Season 12, and we now have a confirmed released date. The new season will premiere on January 1, 2020 on BBC America in the US and BBC One in the UK. A new trailer has also been released.
This will be the second season to star Jodie Whittaker as the time-travelling Doctor. She took over from Peter Capaldi in 2017, and the new season sees her reunited with her companions from Season 11, Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yasmin (Mandip Gill), and Graham (Bradley Walsh). The new trailer features the usual mix of weird aliens, snappy dialogue, and thrilling action. Check it out below:

Now Playing: Doctor Who Explained
This will also be showrunner Chris Chibnall's second season of Doctor Who. It had been rumoured that Chibnall would be leaving the show after this season, but in a recent interview, he confirmed this wasn't the case. "Please write this verbatim--somebody made that up, it was a lie," he told the Radio Times. "It's 100% grade-A… shall I say nonsense, or shall I say bulls***? I don't know how many times to say it. I swear on my life."
The very first season of Doctor Who premiered back in 1963 and ran for 25 years before going on an extended hiatus in 1989. There was an failed attempt to bring it back with an American-produced TV movie in 1994, and the series was properly rebooted in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston in the lead role.
