DLSS 3 Coming to Diablo IV, Forza Horizon 5; Frame Generation Plugin Now Publically Available-November 2024
Nov 25, 2024 12:52 AM

At the Game Developers Conference 2023, NVIDIA presented a series of DLSS 3 announcements. As anticipated yesterday due to an all-too-eager retailer, Redfall will support DLSS Frame Generation (alongside RTX and Reflex), but that's just one of several new games announced today.

First and foremost, Diablo IV, whose pre-order beta begins tomorrow, will support DLSS 3. Michael Bukowski, Blizzard's Technical Director for Diablo IV, said in a statement:

Supporting smooth gameplay in Diablo IV is a priority for Blizzard. We’re excited by the high frame rate of Diablo IV running on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series hardware and DLSS 3.

Both Redfall and Diablo IV will support the technology by the time of the respective launches (May 2nd and June 6th). Unfortunately, DLSS 3 won't be ready for the Diablo IV beta tests. That said, it'll be in the game before ray tracing (due to be added to Diablo IV after launch), paving the way to smooth performance.

The other big game soon to be updated with DLSS Frame Generation support is Forza Horizon 5. The open world racing game made by Playground Games received DLSS 2 support and ray traced reflections a few months ago, but the uplift of DLSS Super Resolution was sometimes modest due to the game being largely CPU bound. As you'll likely recall, DLSS 3 is built to get around that since it generates frames independently of the CPU, so Forza Horizon 5 should run much faster with Frame Generation enabled; the update is scheduled to become available on March 28th.

A few smaller games are getting DLSS support as well, such as Deceive Inc. from Sweet Bandits Studios (out on March 21st), Gripper from Heart Core (out on March 29th), and Smalland: Survive the Wilds from Merge Games (also out on March 29th in early access).

Overall, NVIDIA said DLSS 3 is being adopted much faster than DLSS 2, roughly seven times faster when considering the respective first six months. Chances are the adoption rate will continue to be very quick, as NVIDIA is also launching the Frame Generation plugin during GDC 2023.

Developers will be able to easily access the DLSS 3 plugin from the NVIDIA Streamline SDK. This version will include the latest improvements made to Frame Generation, such as improved UI stability and image quality during fast scenes.

Last but not least, NVIDIA DLSS 3 will be integrated into Unreal Engine 5.2 version. Nick Penwarden, Epic Games Vice President of Engineering, stated:

NVIDIA DLSS 3 introduces truly impressive frame generation technology and the Unreal Engine 5.2

plug-in will offer developers a great choice for increased quality and performance of their games.
