A group of independent game designers who collectively are known as the Coven have released Disposable Heroes, a Quake I and II deathmatch pack that features 21 Quake I maps, 37 Quake II maps, three Quake I mods, and two Quake II mods. Included mods:
- ArmourBack for Quake II, with mechanized combat in six battle suits.
- Mutually Assured Destruction for both Quake I and II, a rocket duel mod where players are equipped with nothing but rockets.
- Carnage for Quake I, a deathmatch with "Scot Bots" to destroy and new weapons and equipment that include grapple, jetpack, holo decoys, guided missiles, and plasma guns.
- Rocket Joust where players battle using guided missiles and mines.
The Coven is selling the pack in North America through the GameSpy Black Market web site for US$12.95 plus $5 postage and handling.
Coven members, located in Europe, America, and Australia, assembled Disposable Heroes over the Internet. John "Gestalt" Bye founded the group.
