Disney's Upcoming Streaming Service Has A Potential Launch Date--Report-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 12:33 AM

It's been a while since there has been news about Disney's upcoming streaming service. However, we now know the service will be coming to a television near you next year.

Things have been quiet about Disney's upcoming answer to Netflix, but its slowly starting to take shape. According to Variety, the service plans on rolling out sometime in the fourth quarter of 2019. In previous years, the company took in $300 million annually from Netflix for the TV rights to Disney's theatrical films. However, Disney is willing to part ways with Netflix in order to make users want to subscribe to its own program by having its own content exclusive on the service. This will start in 2019 with all of Disney's upcoming theatrical films: Captain Marvel, Dumbo, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, Frozen 2, and Star Wars: Episode IX, to name a few.

Now Playing: Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Official Comic-Con Trailer | SDCC 2018

There have already been two major announcements of original content coming to Disney's streaming service. During Comic-Con this year, Season 7 for Star Wars: The Clone Wars was revealed, which will get 12 brand-new episodes for Disney Play. However, a release date for the show has not been set. Additionally, there will be a live-action Star Wars series on the new service, which will be set seven years after Return of the Jedi.

Disney's streaming service is yet another viewing option which will cater content to its viewers, and another reason to move away from cable. With Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, and the ABC television network all under its belt, there is more than enough content to make Disney's service thrive in this market.

Correction: This story previously listed Disney Play as the name of the service, which is incorrect.
