Disney Plus Price Hike Coming For Ad-Free Tier
Disney Plus Price Hike Coming For Ad-Free Tier-September 2024
Sep 21, 2024 10:08 AM

A premium subscription for Disney+ might become even costlier later this year for the streaming service. In an earnings call for the company last week, CEO Bob Iger noted a price hike is likely for the ad-free tier in 2023, which would mark the second such increase within a year.

The Motley Fool posted a transcription of the Disney earnings call with Iger. Speaking about Disney+, the CEO said, "The pricing changes we've already implemented have proven successful. And we plan to set a higher price for our ad-free tier later this year to better reflect the value of our content offerings."

Iger previously discussed Hulu shows possibly coming to Disney+, though no specific series were mentioned. However, Disney+ will also remove some of its streaming content, too. Disney CFO Christine McCarthy added that the company wants to focus on high-quality content versus just high quantity.

Disney+ saw a notable price increase this past December. The ad-free tier went from $8 monthly to $11, and the company introduced the ad option at $8. Iger mentioned in the earnings call that this cheaper plan might not see a price hike because "there's going to be a substantial growth in digital advertising in this upfront."

As for what's happening now, here's what's new on Disney+ in May. In addition, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives later this week on the streaming service.
