Dishonored 2 PC/XO/PS4/PS4 Pro Performance Analysis & Graphic Comparison
Dishonored 2 PC/XO/PS4/PS4 Pro Performance Analysis & Graphic Comparison-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 5:46 AM

Much has been written about the bad performance of Dishonored 2 on PC, but how does the game perform on consoles? Digital Foundry put Arkane’s most recent title on its test bench.

Its no secret that Dishonored 2 suffered from very bad performance due to bad optimization on a lot of PC configurations. The most recent Dishonored 2 1.2 Beta update seems to have improved the gameplay experience by quite a bit, but PC players are still reporting framerate drops and frame pacing issues.

Digital Foundry analysed the title on all platforms, and it seems, that the performance issues aren’t limited to the PC version of the game.

Dave stacks up three console versions of Dishonored 2 - plus the highly underwhelming PC build, which still can't hold 1080p60 on a Titan X Pascal, despite the arrival of a new patch.

Although the release of the latest beta update has improved PC performance, a solid 1080p@60FPS can’t be maintained on an NVIDIA Titan X Pascal GPU with maxed out Ultra settings.

Overall, the PS4 version of the game performs better than its Xbox One counterpart, but surely isn’t perfect. Both platforms suffer from apparent frame rate drops, even though the Xbox One version renders at a lower base resolution - 1280x900 - 1600x900 TAA on Xbox One versus 1700x1080 - 1920x1080 TAA on the base PS4. Dynamic resolution scaling is in effect on both platforms.

The PS4 Pro version of the game renders at 1440p (2560x1440 TAA), but there are no visual enhancements for those with a 1080p screen. Frame rate is locked to 30FPS the most part.

Dishonored 2 was released earlier this month for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

“We're thrilled to announce that Dishonored 2 is now available worldwide. The project was a labor of love, and it makes us incredibly happy to craft this kind of experience for our players,” said Arkane Studios’ co-creative director, Harvey Smith following the game’s release. “Whether you're #TeamEmily or #TeamCorvo, thank you for your time and your passion. We hope you love the game as much as we do.”
