Digital Anvil's Starlancer, the 3D space combat game designed by Erin Roberts (brother of Wing Commander creator, Chris Roberts), showed off its style at this year's E3 for the first time, and gave gamers a look at a more modern Wing Commander-type of game. However, gamers shouldn't expect copies of Starlancer underneath their Christmas trees come December as unforeseen development delays have pushed the release of the game back some six months.
"Microsoft and Digital Anvil are both committed to shipping world class games", Microsoft Games PR manager David Hufford told GameSpot News this morning. "We're not willing to compromise the quality of our titles just to meet a paper deadline".
As a result, development on Starlancer is now forecasted to be done by the spring of 2000, while the rest of Digital Anvil's lineup, including Freelancer, Loose Cannon and Conquest, are still on track for a fall 2000 release. As disheartening as this delay may be, gamers can take solace in the fact that extra effort has been taken to insure Starlancer's quality.
