Update 2: Destiny 2 is back online. A rollback has been performed, so progress loss will be minimal, but the rollback has undone fixes to a few Exotic weapons. The Warlock Exotic Winter's Guile and the Titan Exotic Wormgod's Caress both have been disabled, following an exploit that players were using to seriously increase their damage against bosses. Update 2.7.1 was meant to fix the exploits, but apparently Bungie's fix for issues introduced with the patch means the exploits are still in the game. Bungie says it'll roll out a future update to fix them, but in the meantime, you won't be able to use those Exotics.
Due to an issue with the Winter’s Guile and Wormgod Caress exotic gauntlets retaining increased melee damage after their intended timer cooldowns, they have been disabled until a fix can be deployed at a later date.

Now Playing: Destiny 2 Servers Down After Latest Patch - GS News Update
We’re continuing to work on player account rollbacks and estimate that Destiny 2 will be brought back online at 7 PM Pacific. For more details please see: https://t.co/5a0k5Ysn21
Stay tuned for more updates. https://t.co/PBq4PUcvIi

Bungie previously tweeted it had tested its fix for the problem with Destiny 2's latest patch, Update 2.7.1, which caused some players to lose currency and materials. To deal with the issue, Bungie is rolling back player accounts to before the patch to fix accounts.
We have validated a fix for this issue and will be rolling back all player accounts to how they were before Update 2.7.1 went live. Destiny 2 will remain offline for several more hours as we deploy this fix. Another update will be provided by 3 PM Pacific.

Bungie provided more details about the rollback on its website. The gist is that any progress or purchases made between the 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. PT window will need to be redone--and that includes quest progress and Silver purchases:
"We’re continuing work to fix the issue that caused loss of currencies and materials. All player accounts will be rolled back to the state they were in at around 8:30 AM Pacific.
Players may have to redo any progress or quests they completed between 8:30 - 10 AM PST.Purchases made between 8:30 - 10 AM PST will need to be redone. Silver spent during that time will be restored.Destiny 2 Silver purchases from the platform store will be added back to player accounts.'The Pidgeon and the Phoenix' Lore being removed is a separate issue and will be resolved in a future update"Original story: Destiny 2's newest patch, Update 2.7.1, does a bunch of housekeeping on Season of Dawn bugs, specifically removing a few Exotic armor exploits that seriously powered up players' damage in PvE activities. Unfortunately, while the update fixed a whole host of issues, it might have introduced a new one that steals your various currencies. Bungie has taken its Destiny 2 servers down for emergency maintenance as it investigates the issue.
According to reports, players are logging into Destiny 2 post-patch and finding their Bright Dust, Glimmer, and Legendary Shard stashes significantly reduced. While Glimmer is a fairly easy resource to come by, it's used for a host of things, like upgrading weapons and attaching mods to weapons and armor. Legendary Shards are a little rarer and specifically required to upgrade weapons and armor, and Bright Dust allows you to purchase premium cosmetic items from the Eververse Store without spending real money--which makes its loss a pretty big deal.

Bungie tweeted that it's aware of the issue and investigating it, but didn't share much more in the way of information on what's going on, or when the issue might be fixed (if it can be fixed at all). But it seems like the problem is a big deal, because Bungie has taken Destiny 2 offline for emergency maintenance.

We’re currently investigating an issue where players may have lost their Glimmer and/or various infusion materials after Update 4.7.1 went live.
Please standby for updates.

We'll update this story as more information comes in about the issue and any changes that Bungie might institute to fix it.
