Destiny 2 PC Release Date Isn't Set; Here Are The Default Keyboard And Mouse Controls-October 2024
Oct 30, 2024 11:34 PM

Unlike the PS4 and Xbox One versions, which were dated back in March, the PC version does not yet have a release date. That's according to director Luke Smith, who told PC Gamer, "We're not committed to a PC date yet, but at Bungie we're totally committed to making a PC build as great as we can."

As we learned today, Destiny 2 on PC will run through Blizzard's Battle.net platform. Smith noted that Bungie wants to make sure it gets everything right for Destiny's PC debut. "Our partnership with Blizzard and being on Battle.net, we want to make sure that this version of the game has the time it needs to bake in the oven so it's a delicious piece of bread when it comes out," he explained.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Destiny 2 PC Release Date Isn't Set Yet

Smith said that we might get some further clue as to when the PC version will launch in the "coming weeks," but there's no telling if we'll get an exact date then or not.

Until now, it had been assumed to this point that the PC version would launch at the same time as the PS4 and Xbox One versions, so this news will come as a disappointment to fans. That said, some of the other PC details shared today were encouraging, like the fact that it offers support for 4K and uncapped framerates. In an interview with GameSpot, project lead Mark Noseworthy also detailed some of the things Bungie is doing to "give it the love and attention it deserves to be a great experience."

"We're PC fans ourselves, and we know PC players want the bells and whistles and they want all the sliders, they want all the things that are going to let them customize their experience," he said. "We have a really robust options screen with tons of graphics options, and we're going to support changing FOV, multiple aspect ratio resolutions--of course 16:9, 16:10, but even things like 21:9 are going to be supported.

"Remapping the mouse and keyboard is super important to players, so we're supporting that. If people want to play on PC with a controller, because that's how they grew up playing games and that's how they want to play, so we're going to support controllers as well, and hot plug-and-play between it and mouse and keyboard."

As for the default keyboard-and-mouse controls, you can see that layout in the image above.

Destiny 2 launches for consoles on September 8, with a beta to come before that. In light of this news regarding the PC version's release date, we don't know when a beta will arrive for that version. When contacted for comment, Activision declined to comment on the matter, only telling us, "Destiny 2 is shipping on September 8th, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. We will have details later about the PC ship date on Blizzard Entertainment's Battle.net."
