Destiny 2 Is 4K@30FPS On PS4 Pro Due To CPU Limitations; PC Version Might Not Release on September 8-November 2024

While Destiny 2 will run in 4K on Sony’s PS4 Pro, the framerate will be limited to 30FPS due to CPU limitations.

That’s what Bungie’s producer Mark Noseworthy, and design lead Luke Smith confirmed during a recent interview with IGN. You can check out the interview below:

As covered earlier, the PC version of Destiny will run at native 4K resolution with an uncapped framerate. As expected, this won’t be the case for the console version of the Destiny sequel as these will be limited to 30FPS. This also applies to the PS4 Pro version of the game. While the enhanced PS4 console will be able to render the Destiny sequel in 4K, the required physics/AI simulations prevent the game from running at 60FPS.

Interestingly, Bungie said that they won’t be talking about the Xbox versions of the shooter, more particularly the Project Scorpio version and its specific enhancements, until Microsoft’s E3 conference this year. Still, Scorpio's CPU isn't that more powerful than PS4 Pro's, so it would be surprising if it managed 60FPS.

Another interesting tidbit is that Destiny 2 might not release simultaneously with the console versions on September 8, 2017. According to journalist and presenter Geoff Keighley, Bungie is committed to creating a great PC version of the game, and the developer stated that it is “coming soon” to PC, thereby not confirming a September 8 release.

That’s also what Luke Smith told PCGamer following the game’s reveal event yesterday.

"We're not committed to a PC date yet but at Bungie, we're totally committed to making a PC build as great as we can," Smith said. "Our partnership with Blizzard and being on Battle.net, we want to make sure that this version of the game has the time it needs to bake in the oven so it's a delicious piece of bread when it comes out."

As always, we will keep you updated in case we learn more about Destiny 2.
