Xbox Game Pass is getting a major addition later this year, Microsoft revealed during the July Xbox Series X Games event. Destiny 2, Bungie's MMO-style shooter, will join Game Pass in September--and it will be followed by the Beyond Light expansion upon its release in November. Even better? Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to play that content practically anywhere via the cloud.
Notably, the version of Destiny 2 coming in September will include all currently available expansions, although season passes will be sold separately. That may well include the current Season of Arrivals, which has been extended from its original end date in September into November. That move was made due to the delay of Beyond Light, which was pushed from September to November 10.

It was also reiterated that Destiny 2 is among the many games being optimized for Xbox Series X. Specifically, that version will run at 4K and 60 frames per second. That frame rate is especially notable because no existing console version runs at 60fps, including the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X versions. Load times are often a major source of complaints for console players, so we'll have to see how much things are improved on that front using the Series X's SSD.
The announcement also revealed that Destiny 2 will work with xCloud for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, so you'll be able to stream the game to other devices like smartphones. We also saw a new Stasis trailer that showed the game running on Xbox Series X that included the new powers players will have access to in the Beyond Light expansion. You'll be using your Darkness powers to freeze enemies in place so you can rip through them, and to aid your exploration by creating things like ice platforms to climb and reach new heights.
Beyond Light makes some major changes to Destiny 2. In addition to a new element (joining the existing trio of Arc, Solar, and Void that has existed since Destiny 1), new locations and content will be added--but some existing locations are being temporarily removed as Bungie attempts to manage the overall size of the game. Locations such as Titan will be excised entirely, although Bungie says they will make a return in the future.
Destiny 2 supports cross-save, so you'll be able to carry your progress over to the Game Pass version on Xbox platforms if you've already been playing on PS4, PC, or Stadia.
