Arkane Studios (Dishonored, Prey) have just announced their latest game at the 2019 Bethesda E3 Showcase, and it’s quite different than anything they’ve done before. Deathloop casts players as one of two deadly assassins, who need to kill each other to escape the time loop they’re trapped in. You can check out the first trailer for the game, below.
Looking pretty damn slick! While this game looks like more of a straight-ahead action game than past Arkane's past action-adventure RPG titles, the studio promises you’ll still be able to tackle challenges in a variety of different ways. Aside from that, we don't know much else about the game at the moment. Here's Bethesda's brief official description for Deathloop:
Deathloop transports players to the lawless island of Blackreef in an eternal struggle between two extraordinary assassins, Julianna and Colt. Players will explore stunning environments and meticulously designed levels in an immersive gameplay experience that lets you approach every situation any way your heart desires. Hunt down targets all over the island in an effort to put an end to the cycle once and for all, and remember, if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.
What do you think? Does Deathloop have you interested? I have to say, I like the more stylish, up-tempo feel of the game. Dishonored and Prey were both fun, but they felt a little oppressive at times. Of course, I wonder about the game's structure -- how does its signature time loop work, exactly? Interestingly, the game's description says it features "meticulously designed levels," which may imply Arkane is abandoning the interconnected Metroid-style worlds that have been their trademark in games like Dishonored and Prey. We'll just have to wait and see if that's the case.
Platforms and a release date have yet to be announced for Deathloop.
