Death Stranding Drops a 9-Minute Trailer Featuring First Gameplay, Release Date Confirmed-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 2:01 PM

Yesterday the official PlayStation Twitch account, Hideo Kojima, and other peole related to the production of Death Stranding began teasing some sort of major reveal for the highly-anticipated PS4 exclusive. Well, after nearly 24 hours of making fans squint at footage through handprints, Sony and Kojima Productions have pulled back the curtain, unveiling a new 9-minute Death Stranding trailer. Needless to say, this latest trailer is as packed with craziness as you’d expect, so I won't waste your time with any more preamble. Check it out for yourself, below.

Along with the new trailer, Hideo Kojima has released a new statement about Death Stranding’s themes…

People have created “Walls” and become accustomed to living in isolation. “Death Stranding” is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.

Death Stranding’s overall story remains mysterious, as you would expect, but the new trailer does provide some glimpses of how the game will actually play. It looks like it will have survival elements, as we see various characters exploring an Icelandic-inspired environment and engaging in melee combat with hazmat suited enemies. Later, we see Norman Reedus’ character Sam “plug into the other side” using a “bridge baby” – once there he can detect and track eerie ghost-like creatures, who seemingly drag him underground into a hell-like world.

In addition to the trailer, a November release date has been confirmed for Death Stranding. Pre-orders for the game are now open, with those who put their money down getting various golden goodies, including special armor and an exoskeleton that increases you speed. Of course, the game also comes in Special, Digital Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions. Here’s what’s included in them…
