Matthew Macfadyen, perhaps best known for his work on HBO's Succession, is in talks to join the cast of Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Emma Corrin. Deadline was first to report.
Macfadyen's role has not been revealed, but the character was described as a "third wheel" to Deadpool and Wolverine. The film will be the first R-rated entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be produced by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige.
Deadpool 3 is directed by Shawn Levy and written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who previously worked on the first two Deadpool movies. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin wrote an earlier draft of the script. Disney has scheduled the film for release on November 8, 2024.
Macfadyen won an Emmy for his supporting role in Succession and was recently seen in the film Stonehouse. He is currently filming Holland, Michigan with Nicole Kidman and Gael García Bernal. Succession's final season began airing on HBO this past weekend.
Reynolds spent years convincing Jackman to bring his Wolverine out of retirement for a Deadpool film, with the duo announcing their collaboration in September 2020. The first Deadpool movie was released in 2016 and was the highest-grossing R-rated film at the time. The franchise now moves into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
