Warner Bros. is reportedly developing a Wonder Twins movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. According to that publication, Adam Sztykiel (Black Adam) has been hired to write and direct an original live-action feature for HBO Max based on the DC characters who originated in 1977.
No plotline details for the proposed project, which as of this writing is simply titled Wonder Twins, have been released. Given the characters, it is safe to assume a few things--like that the film would follow the alien siblings of Zan and Jayna who, by touching hands, can respectively transform into water in any state and any animal. In the original comics, the pair also have a pet monkey, Gleek, who has a stretchable tail.
Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill will produce. Past projects from the film and television production company include The Twilight Saga, The Maze Runner, Fault in Our Stars, and Love, Simon.
The Wonder Twins are divisive though unforgettable characters. The heroes have appeared as assistants--sometimes referred to as "interns"--to Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman in Hanna-Barbera's The All-New Super Friends Hour. They also appeared in the Super Friends comic and, over time, became incorporated into the larger DC universe. Zan and Jayna have popped up in The Lego Batman Movie, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, and Smallville.
Elsewhere in the DC Universe, on February 11 the comics giant released a trailer debuting footage from Black Adam, The Flash, Aquaman 2, and The Batman.
