The role of Kate Kane in The CW's DC show Batwoman has been recast. The most recent episode, Season 2's Episode 8, revealed that British actor Wallis Day has replaced Ruby Rose as the character.
Kane was the lead character in Batwoman Season 1. When Rose left the show, Javicia Leslie joined as Ryan Wilder, the new Batwoman, with Kane disappearing following a plane crash at the start of Season 2. However, the most recent episode revealed that Kane survived, and former Krypton star Day has taken on the role.

Now Playing: Batwoman Season 2 Episode 1 Reaction & Breakdown!
Leslie is the first Black actor to play Batwoman, and despite Kate Kane's return to the show, Ryan Wilder will remain as the superhero. However, Kane's reappearance is something that showrunner Caroline Dries has hinted at for some time. In June last year, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she was resistant to the modern TV trope known as 'Bury Your Gays,' that has seen a disproportionate number of LGBTQ+ characters killed off.
"As a lesbian who's been working as a writer for the past 15 years, I'm well aware of the 'Bury Your Gays' trope and I have no interest in participating in it," she said. "That's why it's important to me as the showrunner to clarify any misinformation out there about Kate Kane and recasting Batwoman. Like you, I love Kate Kane--she's the reason I wanted to do the show. We'll never erase her. In fact, her disappearance will be one of the mysteries of Season 2. I don't want to give away any of our surprises, but to all our devoted fans, please know that LGBTQ+ justice is at the very core of what Batwoman is and we have no intention of abandoning that."
Batwoman has already been greenlit for Season 3, and is one of several DC shows that The CW renewed recently. Last month it was reported that The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow will also return for new seasons, and an additional two episodes of the new series Superman & Lois have been ordered.
