Despite not being one of the best-looking games ever made, Dark Souls III is definitely not in need of a remake that overhauls its visuals. However, this doesn't mean that they cannot be improved.
A few days ago, Jonx0r shared a new video showcasing a recreation of the game's Cemetery Hollows and the Iudex Gundyr boss fight made in Unreal Engine 5, mostly to showcase how the combat mechanics of the FromSoftware title have been recreated using the Tempest Combat Framework plugin. What's impressive about this showcase is how the recreation looks better than the original, despite looking almost the same as the original at first glance, with some subtle changes to lighting and reflections, as seen during the boss fight sequence.
Dark Souls III is the latest entry in the series that made FromSoftware one of the most popular Japanese development studios ever. While the series is seemingly done for now, the Japanese developer is working on new titles, which include Armored Core VI: Fire of Rubicon and the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The former will launch this August on PC and consoles, while the latter is apparently not releasing during the current fiscal year, so it will release in April 2024 at the earliest.
Dark Souls III is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. You can learn more about the game by checking out our review.
