Dark Souls, Bloodborne Dev's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Gets A Release Date-December 2024
Dec 27, 2024 3:39 PM

From Software's mysterious stealth focused action-adventure, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, will no doubt be a big change of pace for fans of the stoic Souls series. While we're still largely in the dark about how the new game will fit the developer's familiar Souls formula into the mold of a stealth-action game, we at least know when we can get our hands on the full game. Releasing next year on March 22, the Dark Souls developer's new take on the stealth-action sub-genre will make its debut on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Published by Activision, From Software's next game was first teased last year at The Game Awards, showing off a cryptic trailer featuring a prosthetic arm and the eerie text 'Shadows Die Twice'. During E3 2018, Oscar Dayus got to check out an early glimpse of game shortly after its unveiling at the Microsoft Xbox Conference, and learned a bit more about what to expect from the Dark Souls developer's new IP.

Now Playing: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Release Date And Collector's Edition Revealed - GS News Update

From the official press release, the publisher offered a brief description of the game's narrative:

Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a single-player game that puts players in the protagonist role of a hard-hearted warrior whose mission is to rescue his master, a young lord, and exact revenge on his arch nemesis. Players will enjoy combining features, such as vertical traversal, with visceral head-to-head battle to fulfill their destiny in a vast world filled with beautiful vistas, enormous castles, bizarre weaponry, and fearsome enemies.

The more I learn about Sekiro, the more I'm entranced by it. It'll be interesting to see just how much From Software has learned from the Souls series and Bloodborne, and how they'll inject the uncompromising design they've refined over years into an different beast. It's especially encouraging to hear that Hidetaka Miyazaki will be directing the game as well, who's been at the forefront of From Software's major shift into AAA development over the last ten years.
