ION Storm, Eidos, and Mplayer are ramping up to kick off the Daikatana Deathmatch. The buzz begins the Friday, Feb. 5 at 4pm PST, when Daikatana's creator and game legend John Romero will be the special guest in a live chat. He'll answer questions about the tournament, his experiences in the industry, and his game. The live chat event will be held on Mplayer's site.
The online competition will last four weeks and at the end of the event, four lucky Daikatana masters will fly to Dallas, Texas, to challenge Romero. One skilled player will walk away with a stack of loot including a Pentium II 450 MHz and an authentic replica of a real Daikatana sword.
Other winners have the chance to walk away with a piece of the over US$10,000 in prizes from vendors like Falcon Northwest, 3Dfx, Interact Accessories, Prima Publishing and Computer Gaming World.
Players will begin deathmatching in late February after registering on either Mplayer or Eidos' site. As the tourney and Daikatana's launch approach, we'll be reporting on both.
