Cyberpunk 2077 To Be Far Bigger Than The Witcher 3, Says Dev-October 2024

Let's face it: CD Projekt RED jumped the gun when they announced Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2012. The team was still extremely occupied with The Witcher 3, which eventually released in May 2015. As a result, in the last three years or so we've received very little news about Cyberpunk 2077, but today we finally learned a few things.

In fact, Jose Teixeira spoke with MCV about the game, stating that it's going to be far bigger than anything the studio has produced so far:

Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before. Far, far bigger. We're really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.

When you consider that The Witcher 3 is one of the biggest single player AAA games currently available in terms of longevity and content, that's a lofty endorsement. Teixeira also added that the experience acquired while developing the last adventure of Geralt will help towards Cyberpunk 2077.

The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us. We really didn't know what was going to happen.

If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.

Among the very few things we know about the game, it's worth to remember that it will feature both first person and third person view. Character customization is also going to be important, with several classes being available; finally, players will need to buy a translator implant for their characters if they want to understand what some NPCs that speak in non-English languages are saying.

Cyberpunk 2077 is being made for PC and consoles, and given CD Projekt RED's attention to detail and the hype that now follows their games, we'd be surprised if it appeared before 2017.
