Cyberpunk 2077: How To Get A Refund On PlayStation Or Xbox
Cyberpunk 2077: How To Get A Refund On PlayStation Or Xbox-October 2024
Oct 31, 2024 11:20 AM

After years of anticipation, the release of Cyberpunk 2077 has been soured by bugs ranging from funny graphical glitches to game-breaking crashes. But performance for players on PS4 and Xbox One in particular has been poor, which initially led CD Projekt Red to suggest that players who are unhappy with the game should seek refunds. Although it didn't have a special arrangement in order to facilitate those refunds on digital copies of the game, Sony and Microsoft have now taken steps to grant them to anyone who requests one.

On December 17, Sony said it will offer refunds and removed Cyberpunk 2077 from PSN. If you bought the game on PS4 digitally and want a refund, Sony has set up a special website where you can request one. This is notable, given that refunds are generally not something that Sony allows for. On December 18, Microsoft followed up by saying it, too, will offer refunds to anyone who bought a digital copy of the game, though it noted that it had already been granting refunds to the "vast majority" of those who had already requested one. The game will remain on sale through the Xbox Store, at least for now.

How To Get a Cyberpunk Refund on PlayStation:

Sony has set up a special website dedicated to processing refunds on Cyberpunk 2077. This applies to purchases of the digital version of the game through the PlayStation Store. Sony said, "SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice."

How To Get a Cyberpunk 2077 Refund on Xbox:

Microsoft is directing unsatisfied customers to its support page explaining how to get a refund from the Xbox Store. Although this is catered to the usual refund process (which doesn't always guarantee your money back), in this case, Microsoft has said that "we will be expanding our existing refund policy to offer full refunds to anyone who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally from the Microsoft Store, until further notice."

How To Get a Cyberpunk 2077 Refund From Retailers

Best Buy is currently offering refunds for opened copies of Cyberpunk 2077 across both the Xbox and PlayStation versions, including for the collector's edition. This will remain effective until December 21. Additionally, players can contact CD Projekt Red during the same timeframe to receive a refund if purchased through a different retailer. That means you only have a few days left to take advantage of the offer. After that, you'll be stuck with the game and will need to wait for a patch in the hopes that it's fixed.

As Lifehacker reports, online retailers like Amazon and Walmart have extended their returns periods for the holidays, which may be a bonus for unhappy Cyberpunk 2077 players. However, digital storefronts like Steam, the PSN Store, and Microsoft store generally have more restrictive refund policies.

Initial reports said customers that customers were successful in getting refunds from both Sony and Microsoft, though some players have had to spend over an hour on the PlayStation support line to get one. PC players unhappy with how the game performs on their computers can also submit refund requests through Steam even if their gameplay has passed the two-hour limit, while CD Projekt's GOG platform will also allow refunds.

Getting a refund from physical stores may be more difficult depending on the individual store's policy, though reports from Australia--where customer protections explicitly entitle players to a refund when a game is broken or buggy--say multiple game stores are honoring refunds. US retailers have not announced plans on how or if they'll handle refunds.

With all these refund methods, it's worth mentioning game crashes and game-breaking bugs in your refund request, just as you would if you were returning a faulty piece of hardware. If all else fails, CD Projekt Red has set up the dedicated email address [email protected] for players looking for help refunding its game. The company itself has admitted it didn't spend enough time on the PS4 and Xbox One versions.
