In a deal finalized in mid-December, CUC International, the mega parent company for such game-makers as Blizzard, Sierra, and Berkeley Systems, finalized its merger with HFS Inc. in a deal valued at US$14 billion. As a result of the merger, CUC has changed its name to Cendant.
The combined companies had revenues of over $4.5 billion in 1996. Cendant's primary business falls into the worlds of travel, real estate, and membership to travel, shopping, auto, dining, and other services as well as its software interests.
