Tomb Raider for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is not a simple "facelift" of this year's Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 reboot, Crystal Dynamics has spoken out to say. The game features numerous new additions not included in the original, which justifies its $60 price tag, executive producer Scott Amos argued on the game's forums.

　　"If it was 'only a facelift' AND we were only reselling it on the same platforms we'd already shipped it on, I would see your point," Amos said to a fan who suggested it was too soon to release a new version of the game with prettier graphics alone.

　　Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will carry a $60 price tag, which Amos defended by saying the experience overall is new and improved.

　　"I absolutely stand by our decision to offer up Definitive Edition the way we are," Amos said. "We'd love for every Tomb Raider fan to get to experience it on next-gen. We are definitely looking to draw in those folks who may not have experienced it yet on the last generation so they can experience this version on next-generation. But even for existing hardcore fans, we are confident in the offering we have as an excellent enhanced experience above and beyond what we'd previously provided. We wouldn't bring it to you all if we felt otherwise. You are the reasons we do what we do."

　　Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, which launches on January 28, runs in 1080p and is described as a "fully rebuilt" version of the original. It features an all-new Lara model "created to take advantage of the power of next-gen consoles," as well as TRESS FX technology that promises to deliver "realistic" hair simulation and motion. Every strand of Lara's hair will be "physically active."

　　Amos also addressed the possibility of a PC version of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. "If a future platform comes along or is demanded by the fans, we are also open to exploring opportunities where we can deliver a great Tomb Raider experience if it makes sense for everyone," he said.
