Crave Entertainment is storm-trooping. And a recent partnership includes the acquisition of Asteroids 64 and Battlezone 64, both for the Nintendo 64. Interestingly, neither Craveyard Studios nor Lobotomy is working on either title. Jane Gilbertson, Crave's senior director of marketing, said, "We are working with external development partners on these titles, to be announced later."
Crave told videogames.com that both games will have multiplayer modes, and both should be released during the fourth quarter of 1999. To find out what the games will be like and whether or not they'll maintain or stray from their roots, we went to the source.
"Since the original Battlezone has arcade roots, we intend on fashioning a similarly exciting experience for the N64 gamer based on the sequel to the recently released PC title, Battlezone. Thus, Crave will emphasize the action and battle elements of the N64 version of this game. We want to make it the best mutliplayer N64 game, period. The N64 version will include two-on-two cooperative play and multiplayer deathmatches - all in hi-res mode. In addition, we will add new and different units and weapons," said Gilbertson.
With Activision's PlayStation version of Asteroids on the way, videogames.com had to ask if Crave's N64 version will differ from the current update. According to Crave, the company is working closely with Activision to fully utilize what the N64 has to give. And Gilbertson adds, "Crave is planning some unique twists." When we catch sight or sound of these twists, videogames.com will clue you in.
