Even though Intel officially started shipping its new 820 core-logic chipset and 133MHz front-side bus Coppermine processor on Nov. 15, several eager upgraders have been telling GameSpot that product availability during the launch week was scarce. We got in touch with several major retailers and systems integrators and found that the new Intel processors and mainboards are slowly becoming readily available.
"I believe we are the first system integrators actually shipping product," said Alienware's vice president of sales, Alex Aguila. Alienware received shipments of the new boards last week and began selling them almost immediately. Dell Computers and Micron PC have also actively started to sell systems based on the new Coppermines.
Gamers who aren't interested in buying a complete system and only want to upgrade can buy either the new mainboards or processor separately from a number of online outlets and from stores like Fry's Electronics in the US, as well.
