Control Shows Off Its Beautiful and Ominous First 13-Minutes-November 2024
Nov 22, 2024 3:07 PM

Remedy Entertainment’s Control won’t hit shelves until late August, but you can check out the first 15-minutes-or-so of the game right now, courtesy of the folks at IGN. The footage kicks off with some moody narration and evocative imagery, then we cut to protagonist Jesse Faden as she makes her way around the Federal Bureau of Control’s headquarters for the first time. The building seems to be mostly abandoned, except for a creepy janitor, which Jesse doesn’t really question, as it seems the game will be surreal right from the get go. Eventually, Jesse runs across the body of FBC’s director, seemingly dead by his own hand, then ends up in a bit of an action tutorial in a trippy alternate dimension. Honestly, it’s tough to describe the footage in words – check it out for yourself, below.

Nice-looking stuff! The game’s brutalist skyscraper office environments are both impressively realistic and oddly otherworldly all at once. Remedy are definitely doing something unique here. That said, I hope they don’t go overboard with the trippiness – a certain amount is fine, but I don’t want to be confused the entire game. For now though, I’m definitely optimistic.

Want to know more about Control? You can check out Wccftech’s exclusive interviews with the game’s developers here and here, and can check out an official synopsis, below.

Set in a unique and ever-changing world that juxtaposes our familiar reality with the strange and unexplainable, Control is a third-person action-adventure game combining Remedy’s trademark gunplay with supernatural abilities.

After a secretive agency in New York is invaded by an otherworldly threat, players will take on the role of Jesse Faden, the new Director struggling to regain Control. This sandbox-style, gameplay-driven experience built on the proprietary Northlight engine challenges players to master a combination of supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts and reactive environments while fighting through the deep and mysterious worlds Remedy is known and loved for.

Control hovers onto PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on August 27.
